PatentSight+ enables its users to conduct searches and analyze the results using customizable visualizations such as charts and data tables, helping answer a wide range of competitor and technology intelligence questions. Behind this sits extensive data curation and cleaning, what we refer to as harmonization which is covered in more detail in Data Harmonization and Ownership Information.
Using PatentSight+, you can identify patent ownership (who has ultimate commercial control), legal status (whether patents are active, pending, or no longer in force), and use various indicators to identify current and future competitors, and rising or declining technologies, all through the lens of patent data.
Use cases in PatentSight+ generally fall into two categories, which often overlap: assessing the status quo of one or more companies, technologies, authorities, or countries; and adjusting or improving the current position based on that assessment.
Use Cases
- R&D Strategy — monitor and analyze competitors’ R&D strategies, align patent and business information, and identify new entrants, potential partners, and potential hires.
- Benchmarking — benchmark portfolios via competitive and technological landscapes, monitor your own portfolio strength against competitors, and implement patent-based KPIs.
- Portfolio Management — determine competitive strengths and weaknesses, understand what actions increase portfolio efficiency, and define internationalisation strategies.
- Annuity Fees — manage annuity costs and uncover pruning potential and cost-saving opportunities.
- Licensing — locate patents that may serve as licensing, sale, or abandonment candidates, identify potential licensees, and pinpoint Standard Essential Patents (SEPs).
- M&A — identify acquisition targets and alternatives, evaluate multiple targets’ portfolios, analyze technological fit, and find patent gems or critical issues.
- Trend Identification — find important new inventions, reveal R&D trends, identify disruptors, and explore complementary technologies.
- UN SDGs — identify growth opportunities in emerging markets, gain competitive advantage in future-oriented technologies, and support sustainable investment decisions. See UN SDG Based Technology Framework in PatentSight+.
