Where can I find AI Classifiers in PatentSight?
First of all, only users explicitly granted access will see and use AI Classifiers in their PatentSight+ dashboards and analyses. This ensures compliance with licensing agreements and governance policies. For full details on sharing and access control for AI classifiers, click here.
If you are licensed for AI Classifiers and are granted access, they can be found in a number of locations in PatentSight:

In 'Search' via the 'more' button:
This allows you to apply an AI Classifier or multiple Classifiers, to your search, depending on what you have access to in your PatentSight+ account.

In the Result list, Family Viewer:
Every patent family from the search is shown in the Results List. The Family Viewer is arranged in cards. Each card provides a different set of information on each patent family. The 'AI Classifier' is a card, and shows the score given by the AI Classifier to the patent family.

In your Report results, in various charts and tables:
The AI Classifier can be added as a measure in certain charts and tables for example. Here, all patent families globally in the area of Gen AI Content are included in the search, and this chart analyzes the top ten patent owners in generative AI Content, focusing on portfolio size, patent quality, and overall portfolio strength.

Applying AI Classifiers in your Searches
Once you have access, follow these steps to utilize the AI Classifier in your searches.
Applying AI Classifiers in Visual Search (Field Search Mode)
- 'Add Search Field': In the 'Field Search' section of your New Workbook upon logging into PatentSight, you'll notice a '+ More' button (as shown below). Click this button to add a search field to your search.
- Locate Classifiers: In the pop-up, choose 'AI Classifiers' in the left menu (shown below).
- Select 'AI Classifier': Then look for the tile labelled 'AI Classifier' and select it (as shown below).
Handy Hint: If you frequently use this field, you can add it to your 'Favourites' by clicking the star icon on the tile. This will make the 'AI Classifier' tile easily accessible in this view later on.

Select AI Classifier or Classifiers: In clicking this tile, another window will open where you can select the 'AI Classifier' for your search. Choose one or multiple Classifiers to add to your search, from the list of AI Classifiers.
You can now also select to include a full Taxonomy of Classifiers from the list - in the below example, the '3D printing taxonomy' node is selected within the 'Industrial Automation' taxonomy, which applies all the 3D printing Classifiers to my search. Handy Hint: Cipher Classifiers
If you were previously a subscriber to the Cipher platform and would like to review Cipher Classifiers in the PatentSight+ platform, follow the same steps as shown above, but instead select 'Custom Fields' and then 'Cipher Classifier':
Applying AI Classifiers in Syntax Mode
To select a single, specific AI Classifier rather than an entire taxonomy node, you must insert the full taxonomy path, including the classifier’s name. This ensures that the query targets exactly one classifier within the hierarchy.
Example:
- AIClassifier = ("Industrial Automation\3D_Printing\3D_Printing_Technologies\3D_Printing_Materials")
This syntax uniquely identifies the classifier by its complete location in the taxonomy, preventing unintended inclusion of other nodes or child classifiers.
In Syntax Mode, selecting a taxonomy node automatically selects all underlying AI Classifiers associated with that node. This mirrors the hierarchy in the taxonomy: choosing a parent node expands to include all its child classifiers without requiring manual selection.
For example, if you select the taxonomy node “3D Printing”, the following AI Classifiers will automatically be included in your syntax-based search:
- AIClassifier = "3D_Printing_Technologies"
- AIClassifier = "3D_Printing_Materials"
- AIClassifier = "3DP_Nozzle_Cleaning"
This ensures that your query fully reflects the structure and scope of the taxonomy, making it both comprehensive and consistent with the intended classification logic.
AI Classifier description, last exported and last modified date
In PatentSight+ you can verify the export by checking the 'Last Exported' and the 'Last Built' (the Date the Classifier was last modified) under Option -> Manage Access for AI Classifiers.
This information is included in the respective columns shown below.
Additionally, by clicking the AI Classifier name (shown in blue below), a new window appears which also includes the last exported and last built date, in addition to the scope of the AI Classifier.
